THE UNDERSTANDING AND DEALING WITH BEHAVIOUR PROBLEMS WORKSHOP

  • I have learned how essential it is to establish a baseline before I begin my treatments
  • I guess what I have learned can be summed up in 3 words: Educate, educate, educate!! I now understand how important this aspect of treatment is to help patients and relatives deal with their difficulties
  • It was great to have ABC charts explained in some detail - I now feel much more confident in using these correctly
  • The procedure you have provided for us to ensure behaviour problems are examined carefully will be great to use in our team; I am sure it will avoid some of the divisiveness that behaviour problems often cause in teams
  • I now realise that I need to develop my counselling skills more fully, and intend to explore this as part of my CPD
  • The 'mind mapping' technique you presented to us will be a great way to provide complex information in a more digestible format for patients and relatives. This approach is a good one to ensure that everyone feels they have input to the plan
  • I really enjoyed the course this weekend and hope that we can live up to your hopes by becoming ‘better therapists’
  • The course was a great boost to our confidence to find that we are, on the whole, working along the right lines. Also great to get some external structure and validation for what I believe to be so important
  • As a result of this course I will now ensure that the team spend effort in informing the patient what the issues are
  • Following this course I will return to our team and try to get the other members of staff as excited as I am with the potential for change, that I now understand we can make
  • My initial step may seem quite simple, but it is going to make a huge difference to us all: I am going to get the staff to understand the anatomy of the brain - particularly the neuron and how it works - so that we can begin to understand our clients' problems more easily. This course has taught me how important even things at this simple level can be - 'it is not the patients' fault!'
  • I intend to implement the ABC charts you showed us whenever we have a behaviour problem in the future
  • I have learned that we can use a structured approach to ensuring we examine the causes of any behaviour problems we are faced with - I will ensure my whole team understands and uses this before jumping to conclusions about causes of behaviour problems
  • I will be talking with my manager about flexible working hours now so that I can work alongside the nursing staff in dealing with behavioural issues. This course has reinforced that such team working is at the core of being successful when dealing with behaviour problems
  • We intend to do some 'buddying up' as a staff development project now, so that we can look at how we interact with our patients, with the aim of taking the good aspects and incorporating this into our own practice. We intend to involve patients in this process
  • Our team will now make sure we collect all the information relevant to the behaviour problem, as you showed us on this course, before we decide what is the cause of the problem. This will enable us to have a better view of what the cause really is
  • It has been emphasised throughout this course to treat the patient as a human being and to be honest with them. This was a very important message for me, and I intend to review my practice bearing this in mind
  • As a result of this course I will try to be more honest and direct with my patients
  • We will now ensure a team approach whenever we try to deal with behaviour problems, as we have learned that this is very important
  • This course has reinforced things I have naturally been doing, but it has made sense of all of this so that I can transfer it more easily into a structured programme for the benefit of the patients
  • I have learned about the dangers of just classifying patients and I have also realised the need to understand the possible causes of their problems and to work as a team in dealing with these problems
  • I will take more effort in trying to analyse why the patient is having their problems - doing this in more detail
  • It has made me reflect on how staff are very reactive and perhaps we are reinforcing some of the negative behaviours. I will take this information back to the team and we will work together to alter this. You have given us some tools that we can take back and use with our teams
  • We will try to put ourselves more in the position of the patient, in order to help us understand them
  • As a result of this course we will organise a group of nurses and therapists to help us set up a treatment programme for behaviour problems
  • We will now define the behaviour problems more clearly - the definitions have been a bit woolly to date - and we will make better use of the ABC charts
  • As someone who is relatively new to the field of brain injury, the course has given me a better understanding of the problems presented by people with brain injury, and I have gained in confidence that I can deal with these problems
  • In a survey 98% of respondents rated all aspects of the course as either useful or extremely useful
  • In a survey 83% of respondents said they had gained increased understanding about the relevant terminology and definitions
  • In a survey 75% of respondents said they had gained increased understanding of the neuroanatomical aspects of emotions, feelings and behaviour
  • In a survey 97% of respondents said they had reinforced their knowledge about the emotional and behavioural consequences of neurological injury
  • In a survey 89% of respondents said they had reinforced their understanding of the causes of behavioural problems
  • In a survey 81% of respondents said they had gained a better understanding of how to assess emotional and behavioural problems following neurological injury
  • In a survey 78% of respondents said they had gained a better understanding of how to treat emotional and behavioural problems following neurological injury
  • Theory and time management was excellent!
  • It was useful to gain tips on how to explain neuroanatomy to clients
  • The information on the course was useful as it helped to consolidate information already known
  • Very useful to hear about some new treatment techniques which I had not previously heard about
  • As with your other courses, very easy, clear structure and format to follow, with applications to clinical practice being made throughout
  • The many practical examples that you provided added real meaning to this excellent course
  • Great to have such a patient focused approach presented so clearly
  • Very enjoyable
  • I look forward to your next course!
  • Well done!
  • Fantastic booklet that accompanies the course which really helps me and my colleagues back at work to understand more
  • Excellent teaching (as always)!
  • Very good course - a lot of useful information was gained which will be used in the workplace
  • Clear systematic presentation. Nice handout!
  • Well paced
  • Good to reconfirm some information as well as gain the theory behind previously learned knowledge
  • As a first course since starting work in brain injury, there was sufficient information and it was pitched at the right level
  • Good foundation course! I shall be recommending it for all the staff in my unit
  • Professional presentations. Well grounded. It is always good to have courses run by practising therapists
  • The course has encouraged me to identify some new learning objectives
  • I found it very useful how the presenters used examples from their own experiences with neurological injured patients to illustrate and explain points
  • A really good course which was at an appropriate level for all the different professional groups, with their varied mix of skills
  • Thank you for a relevant, useful and humourous course!
  • I gained good understanding of how I should be approaching assessment and treatment with my patients
  • The presentations were very useful - well polished!
  • I really value the handout - always a useful resource to refer back to
  • Excellent accompanying booklet
  • The course provided reassurance for some techniques I already use, but also was very thought provoking. I will consider very carefully my assessment and treatment techniques prior to working with patients with behavioural problems
  • Well structured and well presented
  • A very professional and informative course
  • The speakers/trainers were excellent; great examples of real situations
  • The rapport with the attendees of the course was good; everyone seemed to be connected and engrossed in the subject. I certainly was. I will take back and use this information in my job
  • Excellent presentation styles and media used. I enjoyed the course very much
  • As always, very professionally (yet informally) presented. Excellent handouts
  • Excellent, engaging, never boring, clear, concise
  • Superb course, with a great group of people. Well stimulated and well controlled
  • Up to your usual standard!! Fantastic - the consolidation of redoing the course has been excellent. Very useful!
  • We love coming on your courses. You are so motivating and your presentation skills are excellent. You pitch the subject matter just right
