THE COGNITIVE REHABILITATION WORKSHOP FOR CARERS
- Life
changing! the course has helped me understand so much of the behaviour
I get at home - it has given me huge insight into my son. I can now
discuss it with him and work out where we can go now. Hugely supportive
to have the tools you have given us to help me
- During
the course I had a profound moment when you demonstrated the 10 second
lag for information processing - it was the longest 10 seconds of my
life and I realised tht I need to allow more time in my interactions
- The
ice rink and furrow analogy was very useful to help me understand my
husbands problems. I have learned some things to help me deal with this
- The
course has reinforced what I had instinctively picked up, but it has
caused me to review the way I am reacting adversely at times. It has
also given me the confidence to keep going and find other things I can
do
- I
now realise that I need to ask what the person with brain injury is
experiencing - to involve them
- All
relatives should have this course at an early stage, with ongoing top
ups and help as needed
- As
a result of the course I intend to hold an educational session for the
team I work with
- The
course has given me some structure on where to start working with our
client. We were floundering and now we have a starting point
- I
will now pay much more attention to attention!
- In surveys 95%
of respondents said that every section of the course was either 'useful'
or 'extremely useful'
- In
surveys 91% of respondents said that the course increased their knowledge
about brain injury
- In surveys 97%
of respondents stated that the course gave them a better knowledge about
cognitive rehabilitation
- In
surveys 90% of respondents stated that during the course they met other
people who were in the same situation as themselves and shared ideas
and experiences with them
- In surveys 64%
of respondents said they had learned new strategies to cope with their
current situation
- In
surveys 77% of respondents said they had learned new strategies to improve
their current situation
- Thank
you for your time, help, care and listening
- This
course really helped me to understand the pressures that carers are
under (from a social worker who attended)
- A
great workshop, very well presented in a friendly manner. Well done
and thanks!
- This
course has given me confidence in myself. I intend to change how I handle
difficult situations now
- I
have learned how to explain to my children what is wrong with Daddy
- Two
days well spent, and very topical
- Totally
relevant and explicitly explained by both trainers
- Very
well put together. We all learned lots of things that many of us were
doing right and some things that we were doing wrong
- Very
simple clear illustrations were used throughout to explain the concepts
- A
very useful course. Thankyou for all the information supplied
- Well
structured course. Not too much - not too little. Clearly explained
- The
cognitive simulation exercises were very useful in helping me to understand
how things probably appear to my son
- The course taught
me to ensure the tasks we give and do are appropriate to the brain injured
persons cognitive needs. I am now more understanding of the need for
this as I am better informed
- It
gave me greater understanding of the more limited cognitive functions
that people have after brain injury and how to go about approaching
the development of these functions
- The course has
enabled me to take a step back and reevaluate what I am doing
- It
was a revelation to me how these things could be affecting my relationship
- The course reinforced
my hope
- It
was great to hear that recovery can go on for a long time
- I
was given practical treatment activities that I intend to use with my
husband
- I
will now try to make time for myself - looking after myself
- I
loved to hear that brain injured people are heroes
- I
have gained a better understanding and awareness of the problems faced
by my son
- I
have realised how important it is to not overload my wife. I can see
how at times it has been me who has made the problem worse! I now understand
what I should be doing to avoid this
- The
course taught me how important routine is to ensure better cognitive
function
- The
course enabled me to 'get into my husbands world' so that I have a much
better appreciation of what things are probably like for him
- Good
to meet others with parallel problems/solutions
- A better understanding
to take skills back
- Well
presented and very applicable
- Enjoyed the day,
learnt things that I can use. Very informative
- Well
presented, giving greater understanding, empowering me to take information
and use it
- Very
helpful and interesting
- Just knowing to
give my son more time to think and respond has made a huge difference
to our lives. No body had told me about this before this course
- After
having been on the course I gained in confidence about the services
I needed to ask for. In addition I found that professionals treated
me with new respect and talked to me as part of the team
- Learning about
the bad effects of overload has been life changing for us all in the
family
- I
gained in confidence and for me it particularly showed me that I was
on the right track
- The
course made me realise that I was not alone in trying to cope with the
problems in my family. This was so comforting
- I
gained in understanding and empathy for what my husband is going through
- I
discussed the course with my husband and we both feel that we have reached
a better understanding. We feel like we are pulling together now rather
than pulling in different directions
- This
course has opened new doors for me, I feel I have new hope
- The course has
given me a much better insight and understanding
- Would recommend
to brain injured clients, relatives and those who work with acquired
brain injury
- Wish
I had had all this information 11 years ago
- Information is
valuable for all professionals, as well as carers, it will inform my
future practice
- I could not fault
this course. It has been a privilege to be able to attend. As a professional,
extremely informative. Will inform my future practice
- I
feel more equipped to assess and deal with educational considerations
- The course has
allowed me to examine other reasons for my sons' impairment and hope
for improvement
- It
has allowed me to see things from the carers perspective (written by
a professional who attended this course)
- I have increased
my theoretical knowledge which helps to explain certain aspects of my
situation
- I
need to allow some time to let the information sink in and then try
out the techniques outlined on this course
- I have gained the
realisation that gains can still be made in my situation
- I
have more insight into what brain injury feels like, so this will give
me better understanding of the situation faced by my son
- I very much enjoyed
the course, it was very informative
- An
excellent course, thank you
